Training Centre in Communication (TCC Africa) was excited to host the University of Namibia members in a workshop on using Open Access Research Tools to Increase Research Outputs & Visibility
This workshop was cohosted by Training Centre in Communication, Knowledge Unlatched, and the University of Namibia(UNAM) on 13th September 2022 where open access research discovery solutions Dimensions and the Open Research Library were presented.
Ms. Joy Owango, Executive Director at TCC Africa introduced and demonstrated how to use the research discovery tool Dimensions, to improve the visibility and access of research outputs.
Wilson de Souza, from Knowledge Unlatched, introduced the Open Research Library which is an open access hosting platform for open access content in different disciplines. This is an essential solution especially in indexing social sciences, arts, and humanities books.
Dimensions by digital science is a modern, innovative, linked research data infrastructure and tool, re-imagining discovery and access to research: grants, publications, citations, clinical trials, patents, and policy documents in one place.

The Open Research Library (ORL) by Knowledge Unlatched, is planned to include all Open Access book content worldwide on one platform for user-friendly discovery, offering a seamless experience navigating more than 14,000 Open Access books. This vital infrastructure is slated to comprise the most comprehensive collection of peer-reviewed Open Access books accessible for everyone. Libraries investing in the Open Research Library contribute to the development of a dedicated infrastructure for the global research community, while participating libraries have the opportunity to benefit from a set of exclusive services.

The University of Namibia (UNAM) is the largest and leading National institution of higher education in the country. It is a diverse institution with a student population from all over the Continent. Although a relatively young university, it has grown to support a student population of 19,000 this year.

The Training Centre in Communication(TCC Africa), is the first African-based training centre to teach effective communication skills to scientists. TCC Africa is an award-winning Trust, established as a non-profit entity in 2006 and registered in Kenya.
