ORCID integrations on OSF, ScienceOpen and Zenodo via AfricArXiv

ORCID and AfricArXiv are collaborating to assist African scientists in advancing their careers through unique identifiers. ORCID supports AfricArXiv and encourages African scientists – and non-African scientists who work on African topics – to share their research output in an Open Access repository, journal or on other freely accessible digital platforms.

As part of the wider digital infrastructure needed for researchers to share information on a global scale, ORCID enables transparent and trustworthy connections between researchers, their contributions, and affiliations by providing an identifier (an https URI with a 16-digit number that is compatible with the ISO Standard ISO 27729) for individuals to use with their name as they engage in research, scholarship, and innovation activities globally.

AfricArXiv provides a free-of-charge platform for African scientists to upload their preprint manuscripts, accepted manuscripts (post-prints), and published papers. In doing so, we collaborate with the Center for Open Science, Zenodo, and ScienceOpen, each of whom provides a repository to which African scientists can upload and disseminate their results as members of the AfricArXiv community. All three repositories have ORCID integrated into their system and allow scientists to seamlessly register, login and update their works data to their ORCID record.

Through this collaboration, we aim to encourage more African scientists to register their own ORCID identifiers to be uniquely identified, connected to their activities and contributions and display their achievements to research institutions, funders and publishers alike.
