Collaboration of Sudanese academic and health institutes to confront COVID-19 spread

In its efforts to confront the COVID-19 threat, the faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Gezira has led an initiative for producing hand sanitizers and sterilizing solutions to overcome the shortage of these products caused by the increased consumption during the current COVID-19 spread.

In partnership with the Ministry of Health, Gezira State, and the Steering Committee of Gezira State Pharmacists, the University of Gezira, Faculty of Pharmacy has finished the first stage of the initiative for producing hand sanitizers to cover the need of the Gezira state:-

1. 5,000 packs of 70 ml gel sterilizer, of which 2,500 were distributed at cost price through drug supply pharmacies. The rest was distributed through other parties, banks, resistance committees, and other health and social service institutions in coordination with the Ministry of Epidemiology.

2. 1000 bottles of 70 ml gel sterilizer for the Children's Development Organization, to be provided for free for the homeless people.

3. Containers of sterilizing solutions have been allocated for health services at the University of Gezira.

4. Lotion sterilizers have been produced to supply Jiyad Hospital and Jiyad factory.

5. Also, containers of sterilizing solutions have been supplied to the National Cancer Institute.
